Being able to charge at home will save you money on costs when you own an EV. With the right charger, you're able to charge overnight, or during the day when the vehicle is not in use, meaning a full charge and less time using a public charging station often, especially if you commit to a good charging routine. You also get the benefit of adding a charging station means equity in your home too.
With a fully electric vehicle, you should install a Level 2 charger. This is a 240-volt outlet that gets installed by an electrician. You shouldn't do it on your own, because that's a lot of power, but it's worth it because it means charging time can be done overnight easily.
Another thing you'll need to know is if your home can support the added power load. Most modern electrical work is able to, but this is why you should consult an electrician, and get a dedicated circuit for your charger.
You will find costs vary and can be around $500 to $1,500 for installation and labor, but that's well worth it given what you save with the number of times you charge at home and not in public and of course, the overall savings when you no longer need gasoline.
