At-Home Charging Options
There are two options drivers have to charge at home. The first is
Level 1 charging. This is generally reserved for plug-in hybrid vehicles since
it is using only a standard 120-volt outlet. It can give you EV a charge, but
it will only be able to produce around two to five miles of range per hour,
which is good for plug-ins since they have a limited EV range, but for 228
miles on the Subaru Solterra? That will take a long time.
That of course is why it's recommended you get a professionally-installed
Level 2 charger at 240 volts. This cuts the charging time down to around eight
to 10 hours, as it charges up to 20 to 30 miles of range in an hour. Many
people with EVs plug their vehicle into their Level 2 charger and leave it
overnight and get up to a full charge for their commute through the likes of
Santa Monica, Burbank, and Redondo Beach.
You can hook a charging station up to your home's electric system, and
we know many people who also install solar panels to help generate power for
their home and charging stations as a long-term cost-saving choice.
